Capital Region - Community Prevention Coalition
About Us

The Capital Region Community Prevention Coalition (CRCPC) was formed in 2007 through the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) initiative funded by a State Incentive Grant (SIG) from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The CRCPC follows the Strategic Prevention Framework planning model, including the following steps: Assessment, Capacity Building, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. Cultural Competency and Sustainability are woven throughout this process.

Goals
The goals of the CRCPC, as identified by the State of NH include:

  • To prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse, including underage drinking and binge-drinking among youth (12-17 yrs.) and young adults (18-34 yrs.).

  • To reduce substance abuse-related problems in the community.

  • To build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the community level.

Risk Factors & Contributing Factors
The CRCPC has selected the following risk factors and contributing factors to address underage drinking and young adult binge drinking in the region:

Social Norms:
  • The community and societal norms that glamorize and normalize alcohol use and impact underage drinking  in our communities
  • The notion that binge drinking is a normal and accepted behavior among young adults in our communities

Perception of Risk:
  • The lack of knowledge and perception of the risk of consequences associated with underage alcohol use in our communities
